What’s Going on in Northern Nevada

Need something fun to do this Friday night?  Well I have just the plan for you.  You can have fun and help out a bunch of wonderful girls who are going to Nationals for cheer completion in Disneyland.  The Ignites Cheer gym has five competitive teams this season going to Nationals.  These girls have worked so hard this year and just want the chance to go to Nationals.

What is Ignite Cheer? Ignite is not just a place to go to cheer, it’s an experience, it’s a lifestyle. Once a person, athlete, mom, dad (whatever,) walks through our doors and decides that Ignite is the place for them, we call that “Getting Ignited.” Ignited is something you feel, inside and out, especially after you put on your Orange and Blue for the first time. Ignited is the first step in becoming an “Ignitie.” You can it more from their website. http://www.ignitecheer.com/

My friend Megan Dowty and her mom Debbie Dowty start Ignite cheer gym in 2007.  They have worked so hard with these young ladies.  Megan has cheered her whole life, including here at the University of Nevada, Reno. Debbie is currently the Galena high school cheer coach it’s wonderful to see locals in our community having a successful cheer gym and making it to Nationals.  Come out on Friday night and help these kids go to Nationals.

Join us for First Friday with all your Ignities at La Posada Real. The Event starts at 6 and run to 8pm with a Parent’s Happy Hour at 6:30. La Posada is donating 10% of all proceeds to our teams so let make this event one to remember!

Senator William Raggio

I said in my blogs that I would talk about people that are outstanding in our community or state, so it only is fitting that I talk about Senator William Raggio.  I was very privilege to have worked with Senator Raggio at the Governor’s Office.  We would attend many of the same events and it was always a great joy to be around him.  I am so honor to have worked and to have known such a wonderful man and Senator.  I would always see him out with his lovely wife Dale. I am so honor to have worked and to have known such a wonderful man and Senator.  Here is the a little bit about Senator Raggio.

Senator William Raggio was born in October 1926. He was a Reno High graduate(1944). He served in U.S. Naval Reserve, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve (1944-46) University of Nevada, Reno graduate (1948) and then when on to get his J.D. from the Hastings College of Law in San Francisco and Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley (1951). In 1958 is where his political career begins as Raggio is elected as the Washoe County district attorney. In 1972: Senator Raggio was elected into Nevada State Senate, a position he would hold until 2011. Senator Raggio announced that on Jan. 5, 201 he would retire from the Legislature.

Senator Raggio did so many wonderful things for Nevada.  He was very active in our community.  You would see at many events and around town.  He always had a smile on his face and would talk to anyone that would stop him to chat.  He was a great mentor to many of my colleagues.  It truly was a sad day for Northern Nevada on Friday we learned of the loss of Senator William Raggio.

Here is a link to a wonderful article that the University of Nevada, Reno wrote on Senator Raggio. http://www.unr.edu/nevada-today/news/2012/the-passing-of-a-legend

What Going on in Northern Nevada.

In my blog each week I will keep you up dated on what’s going on in the community. When I worked for the Governor that was my job was to keep up on community events for the whole state of Nevada. I was the one who would create the Proclamation or certificates for the Governor to sign and declare the day, week or month for. I also looked and was able to honor the hero’s or amazing people that would have never asked for it. I have been very involved in the community it made my job easy. I think it’s important to know what’s going on in the community. If any one who would like to help in any way that they can do so; by attending, volunteering, donating or just being involved.

Right now I am on the Board for Step 1 and I’m also the Auction Chair for the American Cancer Society. I’m also involved with JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Reno-Tahoe Open, Justin Timberlake Shriner’s Golf Tournament, and Boys and Girls Club.

Being the Auction Chair has been a new experience for me. Many of years I have went out and received auctions items for JDRF, but being the one in charge is more stressful. But I am up for the challenge. I have sending out and calling different businesses for auction items for the Galas since January. The items are more so coming in now that the dead line is approaching. The Suits N Sneakers Gala is on May 12, 2012 at the Peppermill at 6:00pm

What’s going in Northern Nevada

Close to a million, a million dollar that is. That’s what you can say to sum up what the Boys and Girls Club’s Cioppino Feed and Auction is. That’s how much they come close to every year. This feed was started by the late Jack T. Reviglio.  Jack has been giving back to the Northern Nevada community for many of years.  “While Jack and his business made the customer the focus of all their attention, at the same time he revealed a quiet devotion to meeting the needs of his northern Nevada community. He was especially active in fundraising for local non-profit organizations and educational institutions. Jack gave generously to every cause imaginable – it was not in him to say no to anyone. What made Jack happy was seeing others happy. One of his dearest causes was the Boys & Girls Club which he founded with a group of other local leaders in 1976, where he served as president from 1983 – 1993, and where he continued to serve on the executive team until his death. The Boys and Girls Club’s annual fundraiser bears his name – The Jack T. Reviglio Cioppino Feed. He was also deeply involved in the University of Nevada, Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, Our Lady of the Snows, Catholic Community Services, Serra Club, the local Lions Club, Western Suppliers Association, and the National Automobile Museum. Jack was the recipient of many awards including the Italian of the Year in 1982; Man of the Year for the Boys and Girls club in 1983;” (http://www.goblueteam.com/?section=about&page=management&cf=jare)

Which over the years this has been one of the top fundraisers in Northern Nevada.  This Cioppino Feed provides so much revue for the Boys and Girls.  What is the Boys and Girls Club?  “Since 1976, the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows has helped build great futures for thousands of Northern Nevada youth with everything from before- and after-school programs, to sports leagues, education and healthy meals. The Club operates at 19 locations in northern Nevada.” (http://www.bgctm.org/)

If you want something fun to do, this is the event to go to.  Their silent auction is one of the best.  I’m wondering if they would like to come and help me with mine.  The Cioppino is amazing and you will be in good company with wonderful people from our community helping out a great cause.  These kids deserve it.  I have volunteered for the Boys & Girls Nite Out, where you get 3 to 4 kids and you take them around to play games, they can jump in the bounce houses, the petting zoo, get dinner, and watch a circus show. These kids are amazing and they deserve this.  So come out and be like Jack and give back!!
