Wish Day

How many of you knew that April 29, 2012 was National World Wish Day?  I didn’t until I read the Reno Gazette-Journal on the front page was this story. It was such a wonderful story but all their stories from the Make-A-Wish Foundation are amazing. Below I included the link to the story if you didn’t get a chance to read it.

Did you know that we have Make-A-Wish Foundation in Northern Nevada? We do have one and they do grant many of wishes for children. This is an amazing foundation that I have privilege to work with.  They have done so many wonderful things for these children, that these children would have never been able to do.

I was lucky enough back in 2010, to make a little boy’s dream come true. His dream was to ride the rail road in Nevada, well I heard the story and I told the Governor about him.  He was able to meet the Governor, have a one-one talk with him, , tour the Capitol, and the Governor presented him with a copy of a proclamation, one of the rail roads that he visited happen to be celebrating a milestone and they received a proclamation for it. That was the best feeling; to be able to make someone wishes come true.  I still have the thank you that he sent us.

“Make-A-Wish will celebrate the third annual World Wish Day on 29 April 2012 with thousands of people across 48 countries the Foundation serves around the globe.

World Wish Day commemorates the anniversary of the wish that inspired the creation of what is now the world’s leading wish-granting organization. Seven year old Chris Greicius’ wish to be a police officer was granted in Phoenix, Arizona by volunteers on 29 April 1980. To celebrate Chris’ wish and the work of the Foundation, Make-A-Wish affiliates, chapters and supporters from all over the world will be joining in the celebration through wishgranting events in their communities.

This year, a special group of celebrity wishgranters came together to craft a Public Service Announcement to raise awareness about World Wish Day® and the Make-A-Wish® mission: : youtu.be/OFUjTf3N82Q.

Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, among other celebrities, have lent their voices to the World Wish Day campaign. In supporting this important cause, Miley Cyrus granted the wishes of eight children from Australia, Canada, Spain and the US with a private meet and greet. Other celebrities have joined in, including WWE superstar John Cena who granted wishes to children across Europe throughout April, including wish children Aaron from Ireland and Mark & Alex from the UK.

Several Make-A-Wish International sponsors are helping us celebrate World Wish Day this year, including Mattel, Disney Stores Worldwide, CNN International, Hard Rock International and Ringo Starr’s Lotus Foundation – as well as clothiers Brooks Brothers, who are proud to announce their ten day fundraising initiative, starting on World Wish Day itself, 29th April.

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation’s mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities.”
