What’s going on in Northern Nevada

Last weekend the Noble-able had their Annual Gala.  This year’s Gala theme was the Rat Pack, the event was filled with music, dancing and smiles! This is the second year that I have went to this gala.  It’s such a fun event, to listen to these wonderful individuals entertain you with their musical skills that they have been learning and practicing for the last year.  Governor Gibbons honored them with a certificate in the fall of 2010.

What is the Noble-Able, well the Noble-able is an non-profit organization that gives children and adults who have a disability the chance to learn how to play a musical instruments.  Here is more information of what musical therapy is from this website.

 Music Therapy

What is music therapy?

Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. (American Music Therapy Association definition, 2005.)

Who can benefit from music therapy?

Music is a universal human experience and touches us in ways that we are just now learning to measure. Music therapy uses this powerful, reinforcing medium to assist people of all ages and all abilities work on non-music goals such as stress reduction, pain management and skill acquisition. Thus, music therapy is an appropriate intervention for children and adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities, neurological differences, acquired disabilities, mental health issues and age related disabilities. This includes, but is not limited to, people with:

 • Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders

• Down syndrome

• Developmental and learning disorders

• Parkinson’s Disease

• Traumatic Brain Injuries

• Alzheimer’s and age related dementia

• Substance abuse issues

• Acute and chronic pain

• Post-traumatic stress disorder

• And more
